To all of you who know someone who is fighting this dreadful disease, know someone who has passed on, or may even be fighting this battle yourself... I hope you find some comfort here at this site, whether it be an article, a link, or even a picture. My heart is with you, for I have lost my dear sister Janel who was only 42 at her passing October 26th, 2009. This young woman never drank alcohol or smoked a day in her life. She was a third degree brown belt in karate and only lived for three days following her diagnosis. I encourage everyone to support research and funding for this silent killer.

Cancer

Cancer, the dreaded "C" word. It has become such an epidemic in our society that people are loath to even mention its name. Cancer is a disease that can affect many different parts of the body. Some of these diseases are more serious than others. It is not only the disease that is painful but also the many way of treating it. Radiation treatments may kill the cancer but are also dangerous for the body. Chemotherapy comes with many side affects such as hair loss and severe nausea. The many faces of this disease challenge an individual to show their fighting spirit and will to live.

A Psalm of David.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

Many things can unsettle our lives and shake our confidence: losing a job, a cancer diagnosis, a child or grandchild with a significant illness. There are things beyond our control, and things that leave us unable to know what is ahead. On those days, like Joseph, we can turn to God, place ourselves and our lives in God's hands and grow in trust and faith. God's heartfelt desire and plan is to give us life abundant and eternal. God preserved and provided for Joseph and Mary and will do the same for you. We absolutely can trust God!

Angels

Angel stories abound these days. You have probably heard many yourself. People often report incidents where they were in some kind of danger, and an unseen force came to their aid. Others describe occasions where a stranger appears for a certain interchange and then is suddenly gone.

Angels are real. The Bible mentions them 289 times. In fact, it even exhorts us to be kind to strangers because we never know when we might be encountering angels. Sometimes they appear as ordinary people and sometimes as shimmering, luminous beings.

Angels existed before men and are of a higher order than men. Nevertheless they are "ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation." They save from peril and provide for needs. They warned of danger in the Old Testament and disclosed God's plans in the New. Scripture hints that both individuals and nations have angels assigned to them, and when this life is over, angels will escort those distined for heaven into the presence of God.

Angels are also agents of judgment. It was an angel who brought death to the firstborn of Egypt when the Pharaoh would not let the Israelites go. It was an angel who brought a plague to the Israelites when King David sinned in numbering the people. At the end of the world, angels will initiate horrific catastrophes upon the earth. At that time Jesus "will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace."

Angels exhibit respect and restraint in spite of their power. When the archangel Michael and the devil were disputing over the body of Moses, Michael did not insult the devil. He merely said, "The Lord rebuke you."

Angels are never to be sought out or worshiped. When an angel came to tell the apostle John of the cataclysmic events to occur before Jesus' return, John "fell at his feet to worship him." But the angel said, "Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!"

Angels attended Jesus while He was on earth. They announced His birth to His mother-to-be and sang in the skies when He was born. They ministered to Him after He was tempted in the desert and in the garden of Gethsemane before He was crucified. They were present at His resurrection and His ascension into Heaven. And they will be present with Him when He returns to earth.

But now, in the meantime, the Bible says the angels rejoice whenever a human being repents and turns to God. To repent means to acknowledge you have failed to thoroughly keep His law. God provided for his failure by sending His Son. Jesus died to pay the penalty for sin, enabling God to forgive sinners and still remain just. Would you like to have God's forgiveness? You can. If you believe in Jesus and that He died for you, you will have forgiveness of sin, peace with God and assurance of eternal life.

And the angels will rejoice!
